Ferber Method

The Ferber method dictates that the child should be left to cry, a little time longer every time he wakes up and before you pick him up. Some doctors do not encourage this method for children below one year of age. Parents who chose to try this method on your babies should find it wise to adopt the modified Ferber method.

This method requires the parent to attend to the crying baby every five minutes until the baby finally falls asleep. This method is aimed at encouraging the child to fall asleep on his own. Make sure you go through your child bedtime routine without skipping a step, and then play them some baby sleep music, songs or white noise.

What is the purpose of baby sleep music or white noise? Baby music is usually lullabies recorded in a tape or compact disk. White noise refers to noises from a special machine that simulates the sounds in the womb. Whether you are one or both of them, the main goal is one, to lure the child to fall asleep.

If your child cries again, follow a strict routine of checking on them every five to ten minutes. When in the baby’s room, try not incite them to wake up if they have gone back to sleep. Also, don’t try to give them a bottle or picking them. Follow the pattern every time he wakes up for the next one week. The main drawback to this strategy is that you will have to start it again and retrain them after a family trip, or after some illness.
